Pilates Mats

Pilates mats are normal occurrences in Pilates studios and they make sure that these mats are nice and comfortable to sit on. Pilates students rarely expect to bring their own mats that’s why studios make sure that the students are well-provided. Anyway, aside from aesthetics and convenience, what do mats do? How will you choose the right mat anyway?

First we need to know how Pilates and yoga mats differ. These two are actually similar in with their sizes. They are both used for exercises done on the floor. Nonetheless, Pilates mats are rather thicker than yoga mats. This is because there are many standing poses in yoga. The mats used for yoga need to let the practitioner feel the floor, while the Pilates instructor doesn’t usually need to. Pilates mat needs to be thick so that the user will be padded from the floor. Rolling exercises like Open Leg Rocker and Seal are no fun without the padding. It will hurt for sure. Another difference is that yoga mats are sticky and are designed to prevent slipping. This is a hazard which is not a worry with Pilates exercises.

Good Pilates mats are at least a half inch thick. There might be some thinner mats marketed as Pilates mats but make sure that you won’t buy them for they are more applicable for yoga cross-over mat. A Pilates mat should also be firm so ensure yourself with the ones that is firmer than any yoga mat. Also make certain that it is not too soft for it will not support your balance and alignment correctly. Mats that roll up can offer the benefits of being portable and stash able. They are usually made of dense foam or rubber.

Often, it is not advisable to compromise your safety in exercising for a cheap mat. It is always ideal to get the right ones even if they are not cheap.

Pilates mats prove to be very helpful when you do the exercises that will develop strength, balance, and flexibility so it is best to have the standard quality of mats.

Best Pilates mat selection can be challenging because a Pilates mat need to be thicker than yoga mats. This needs to be something that you can use as you do the exercises needed to improve your strength, balance, and flexibility. It needs to be really durable. So how do you choose the best mat for your Pilates habit?

You may want to choose a Pilates mat that is largely based on the surface you will be exercising on. The harder surfaces will require more padding so as to protect vulnerable parts of your body from injuries. Softer surfaces, on the other hand, will require less padding since too much padding can create unstable surface. All in all, the most important thing to consider in choosing the best Pilates mat is the thickness of the padding. The texture, length, size and color are all up to you.

Nice Pilates mats are at least half inch in thickness although there might be some thinner mats marketed. Always make sure that you will not buy the thinner ones for they are more applicable for yoga cross-over mat. However, in some cases, you will also need the thinner pads when you exercise on soft surfaces.

A Pilates mat needs to be firm so ensure yourself with the ones with firmer designs which are not the same with yoga mats. Also reckon with the texture, although it is not a big deal. Make sure that your Pilates mat is not too soft. The best Pilates mat is not usually soft because it is made to perfectly support your balance and alignment.

The best exercise mat that you can have is the one that can be rolled up since it is very beneficial especially if the Pilates studio is far from your home. These kinds of mats are portable and stash able. They are often made of dense foam or rubber so you won’t slip as you do the exercise. It will not be advisable to compromise your safety in exercising for a cheap Pilates mat. So get the right ones even if they will cost you a little higher. Pilates is an exercise that is needed to enhance strength, balance, and flexibility.

Best Pilates mat is indeed very when you do your exercises.

Joseph Pilates would be so proud of the incredible advances in Pilates clothing that has been designed just to enhance the Pilates workout.

When searching for Pilates clothing, there’s a plethora of choices in both pants and tops that are perfect for the Pilates devotee.

Girls, you can check out the tops with halter tops, spaghetti straps, long-to-short sleeves and cross-over fronts. But there are two things ladies that you must remember when shopping for a top and that is to find one that allows you to really move and to find one that provides adequate coverage. No need to flash too much flesh at the studio.

There are also a wide range of choices when shopping for pants. You can purchase boot-cut, flare or straight-leg full length, capri-length or even shorts. If you really want to get just the right ones, look for Yoga or Pilates capris and pants with roll-tops that can be adjusted high on your waist or lower based on your comfort and based on how the pants respond to movements such as roll-ups and leg-lifts.

For the waist band in Pilates pants make sure to avoid belts, buttons, draw strings and elastics, all of which restrict movement. The goal of the perfect pair of Pilates pants is to find a pair that stays put, that doesn’t slide around and that doesn’t bunch up. Many people love the Capri and shorts.

So we figured out that there are lots of choices for the gals out there but what about the guys?

Yes, as you might have guessed, there are not as many styles for men in either the pants or the tops.

But not all is lost! You can find plenty of t-shirt style tops with long-to-short sleeves or even a sleeveless tanks. Same as with the ladies, men you must find a style that is fitted and not too baggy or too loose.

You want to be able to see your positioning and your muscles throughout your workout. If you are looking for shorts to wear when you do Pilates clothes then be sure to shop for shorts that are relaxed in the waist and don’t have any of that binding elastic or drawstring.

Stay with the lightweight pants instead of the heavier sweat pants. Why do we wear those things anyway! The goal is to find clothes that will move with you and not bunch up, slide around or embarrass you in any way.

Some people decide to wear shoes when doing a Pilates workout; however, the majority of exercisers use just go barefoot.

This is a personal decision. Some folks feel that shoes give them more stability while others feel that being without shoes doe the same thing. Talk with your trainer to decide what is best for you. But if you are going to wear shoes but sure to select a pair that is very comfortable, very lightweight and is completely flexible to allow freedom of movement for your feet and ankles.

Pilates shoes should not be too tight and not too loose. They must fit very well or they will cause more problems. In fact you should look for the pair of Pilates shoes that you can forget you are even wearing.

Pilates is an exciting and invigorating method of exercising. You owe it to yourself if you are going to follow the Pilates method that you will also take the time to select appropriate Pilates clothes to best benefit your workout. Yes indeed, Joseph Pilates would be very pleased.

Pilates Gear

Pilates gear selection may have become popular for many of a growing number of Pilates practitioners. This is especially true for women… who just happen to be more fashion conscious than her regular male counterpart.

You see… yoga practitioners have their own yoga attire, other sports and athletes have their own uniforms, but why is it that there is no designated pilates gear?

This question has often been posed to Pilates experts and trainers… and the answer has remain the same over the years. You can wear anything comfortable. Did you note that the key word here is comfortable?

It is important that you feel comfortable in your attire, whatever your choice may be, as you perform the exercises. There are just some points you have to consider as you look around for your pilates clothing gear.

While emphasizing comfort, you will be exercising, and as a consequence… when you do that, there are bound to be changes and shifts in position. You would not want to wear any type of pilates gear that is going to restrict your movements or just make it difficult for you to raise or move your hands and feet. That being said… you probably don’t want anything baggy or extrememly loose either.

While loose clothing may not restrict your movements, it could interfere with it.

Loose necklines can sometimes cause a bit of an exercising problem well. Even if you are the type that doesn’t mind showing a bit of cleavage… during the heat of the exercise performance, this kind of clothing tends to show more than what you may have intended, and as such you then end up doing cover ups instead of pilates dvd exercises.

Be wary also of gear styles that require tying into a knot either in front or in the back. When you are lying down on your back, this knot or in other instances, metal rings could be painful.

Pilates gear that you use does not need to be complicated or sophisticated. Many people favor light shirts. There are also those that favor cotton materials that allow your body to breathe even when you are exercising… even in an air conditioned room, it can get really hot once you’ve worked up a good sweat.

Pilates gear is offered by a variety of different sports brands that would suit any type of workout and would be a perfect fit for pilates.

Supreme Pilates

Supreme Pilates is what might be termed of another innovation in the widely popular pilates fitness system that you have probably heard of. With over 11 million practitioners and a growing number of enthusiasts added daily, you just know that there’s something about it that clicks.

Joseph Pilates started the program way back during the 1st World War while he was working as a nurse and tending to the injured and the bed ridden. He found a safe and simple way to effectively rehabilitate and strengthen the body. After his nursing work, he brought his program to New York with him and it was subsequently introduced to athletes and dancers who needed to gain muscular strength but not necessarily bulk up in weight.

Although not an overnight sensation… but that was enough to start a trend. Today, there are over 14,000 licensed Pilates instructors. One of the most widely recognized is Mari Winsor. Mari is one of those instructors who didn’t just maintain status quo, rather she decided she could add something to the program to make it more relevant to others with specific fitness needs.

That gave birth to Winsor Pilates which has already gained a huge following. This particular fitness program is designed with only so much as a mat as being the basic equipment. You can get your muscles toned, firmed, and stretched with the different pilates exercises… with just the mat.

Some are those however who feel such exercise can be quite boring without any diversity of equipment. However, actual gym equipment can be quite expensive, so the idea of portable and affordable exercise equipment that would complement the popular exercise program was not lost to some of those more enterprising minds.
Supreme Pilates takes the fitness program to the next level by combining the benefits of the mat and gym equipment by offering light resistance. This results in an even better fat burn, weight loss, and body sculpture.

Supreme Pilates is something that you just must experience to get the complete idea; and to find out how this small, space saving fitness equipment can transform your body in just as little as 20 minutes each day. Nope… no need for bulky gym equipment or other fancy diets and supplements. Just a fun and simple pilates workout that the world has gone crazy about.

Supreme Pilates as a new trend elevates your workout to the next level… both in terms of fun and fitness benefits!

Pilates Equipment

Pilates equipment might be a little anathema to the Pilates fitness system. Although conceived to be performed with the very barest of props and materials, the program’s popularity has led to the development of many Pilates workout apparatus.

Joseph Pilates started the program when he was a nurse during the 1st World War to rehabilitate bed bound casualties.

Using just springs from mattresses, he was able to get injured soldiers to exercise and make their near atrophied muscles functioning once more. Today, there are over 11 million dedicated practitioners of the Pilates fitness system and over 14,000 licensed instructors in just the United States alone.

The use of pilates equipment might have given rise due to its growing popularity, and perhaps to give in to the demands of practitioners who probably resisted the idea that such fun… and very popular fitness practice would only require a mat.

Some Pilates tools have started being marketed recently and some have become favorites among the program’s enthusiasts. The following are five of some of the most popular specialized pilates equipment:

  1. Pilates Reformer – Easily the most well known, this piece of exercise equipment is composed of straps, pulleys and springs that allows anyone to perform over 100 forms of exercise. It is essentially an apparatus that lets a person glide standing, kneeling, sitting or any other position required. The tension strengthens and tones the muscles.
  2. Pilates Cadillac – Known in certain circles as the rack, it might appear as some form of a torture chamber but it allows the performance of over 80 forms of exercise. Looking like a table top with horizontal poles in the corners, the rack is an evolution of the makeshift exercise equipment originally designed by Joseph Pilates.
  3. Pilates Resistance Bands – Also known as Thera Bands or Flex Bands, this stretchable latex strip provides slight resistance that is used for stretching, toning and sculpting muscles. It is not only affordable but also very portable.
  4. Pilates Chair – Designed like a fancy stool and also referred to as the stability chair, more than 75 exercises can be performed on it and is perfect for rebalancing and stretching muscles.
  5. Pilates Barrel – This look like a fully upholstered arch but it is a very effective rehabilitative tool particularly for those who have stressed, tensed, or injured muscles. This Pilates equipment also comes in different sizes to accommodate different body sizes.
